2021.12.03 01:07 rosy_bay Looking for a kids/young adult spy novel about a secret academy for child assassins/spies?

It's about a teenage boy(?) who gets sent to a secret academy for child spies/assassins. The children there were forced to participate in spy-training activities, but the first part of the book was just setting up the school. I think the kids might have been forced to get rid of some of their belongings because they weren't allowed on campus? There was this entrance ceremony, and some kids might have gotten eliminated during it. I don't remember how it ended, but I'm fairly certain it covered the first year of the main character's education there. I don't know whether it had sequels or not.
I read this book sometime between 2008 and 2014. It had a purple cover with neon green, and the cover was very shiny. It was a new copy when I read it, either gotten from the book fair or from my school library when I was in middle school, and it was paperback. It was aimed at middle schoolers and written in English.
If anyone can help, this one's been bugging me forever!

2021.12.03 01:07 bufo333 looking for a language with an ecosystem?

I am in IT operations, my programming languages most used for work is python and shell scripting. I have written a few node apps, but by far the bulk of my work is in python. Recently I have been involved with a project that manipulates binary streams at the tcp and udp layers. I have been frustrated with the way Python handles bit twiddling compared to what I would do with C when programming microcontrollers for instance.
To this end I am looking for a language that provides very easy low level bit manipulation and lots of tools for manipulating bits and bytes similar to C, however I want a language that is modern, has a large easily usable ecosystem which would allow me to develop desktop or web apps. Essentially I want a language with the power of C, but the easily available libraries of python, and web framework access of java or c#. The languages that have been suggested to me are C#, Go Lang, and Rust among other. I would like a fast language, I do not care if it is strongly typed as I am coming from Python, ease of development in Linux is a plus. basically I think what I am looking for is a C# with really good UNIX compatibility.
Does anyone have any suggestions for which modern language has the best ecosystem and path which would allow me to develop console apps, web apps, desktop apps, while still providing good bit manipulation routines and easy multithreading?
I know the FAQ has suggestions around languages, but I don't think my question applies and I already know several languages.

2021.12.03 01:07 pfudorpfudor If I were to go back in time to fuck with historians...

It would be to about 3000 B.C. so man is just developed enough to have a written language. So basically I would teach them the different parts of the brain, but I'll name all the parts after different gods. And it'll fuck with historians because holy shit this proto-verbal civilization definitely know something about the human brain but what is it??
